Painted Brick

Welcome to my latest obsession - painted brick!  Whether it's covering a stately traditional home's exterior

a Victorian Rowhouse

or a Brady Bunch era fireplace

there's something about the combination of color and texture that makes me smile! What do you think?  Is painted brick sinful or sublime?

I am currently trying to convince my husband that we should paint our ugly brick fireplace, but he's having a hard time accepting that I'm right!

Let's just discuss the fabulousness of that pale blue door for a second please!

Paint it! I love the look of painted brink once it gets worn and faded!

I love painted brick both outside and on a fireplace. I have seen the right paint color transform an ugly brick house. Nothing wrong with a brick house but some brick is just hideous and looks so much better painted. I pretty much think all brick fireplaces look better painted.

I love painted brick, but knowing that I would have to keep it up may bother me.
Lovely post, Kim.

Go, go, the dated brick must go. I like the way it looks on the exteriors too.

I adore painted brick! We said we would paint our house when we bought it. I am still waiting on that to happen :)

I think it depends...an ugly, old and outdated fireplace? Yes. An elegant and traditional brick home? Hmmmm...I'm not sure I'd be brave enough!

I agree with Carrie. Icky fireplaces be gone! I don't know if I'd like the maintenance of painted exterior brick. Kinda defeats the purpose of buying a brick house, I think.

So sublime, Kim! Brick is one of the few things I am all about painting!

I love painted brick walls...
They give a warm feel to any space,
I love them too in interiors
especially in bedrooms and kitchens.

Kim,
There is nothing that updates a "ugly color" brick home or fireplace like a great paint color! I'm all on the painted brick team! The photos you showed are gorgeous! My Bf, at one time had a small brick ranch cottage and painted it a dark taupe all by herself! It was sweet to begin with but the paint just brought it to another level!

I want so badly to paint our brick home but hubby is against it. If I could just get him to go away for a weekend without me...

Dear Kim, what's amazing is that I have a number of these same photos saved on my pc because I absolutely adore them as well! We are similar in that we both are Obsessed with painted brick! Well perhaps I speak for myself in regards to the obsession, but seriously, painted brick goes traditional, european, classic, royal, contemporary, and chic! And I love the row houses in DC, I could wander those blocks for hours just loving the color combinations! xox!

Definitely sublime! Painted brick is my favorite brick. I have been dying to paint our exterior brick to freshen up the look of our house. Thank you for the lovely inspiration.
